Carmen Richardson

When I am painting with pastels I am creating windows looking into momentous memories of events I have experienced in a realistic style. Inspiration to paint arises from exploration and observations of the natural world, which I enjoy in immediate surroundings, national parks, campsites or even roadsides while travelling. Working from home on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia or where travels take me, my art springs from the awe-inspiring forms, colours and patterns and in the landscape, whether great or small.

The artistic methodology I use includes documenting nature and memories through photographs and sketches which are used as reference materials for paintings.

I enjoy working with the vibrant colours and soft textures of pastels and seek to share the journey of understanding natures creations and expressing the joy and awe felt, through my developing practice.

Pastels are a soft medium which must be protected behind glass in order to share them with viewers in a gallery situation. I choose to have my paintings professionally framed with non reflective glass on most of my paintings. The choice of frames and matting is greater and quality is assured.
