Anne Whillas

I was sent to Port Lincoln as a young teacher. In January 1972, there was a hot northerly wind blowing and I’d been living in England for two years prior… I thought I’d come to the end of the Earth!

Once I got to know the people and the beautiful countryside and beaches around the city I came to love living here.

In 1976, I married Peter, a farmer, and we raised three children at our farm at Coomunga.

My painting began in 2019 when my grandchildren moved to Sydney, leaving a large hole in my life.

The Port Lincoln Art Group were most welcoming and I continue to learn there and enjoy the Wednesday gatherings and occasional workshops.

I find the colours and shapes of gumtrees fascinating and love to paint them. I’d like to be more adventurous with my painting but at 75 it may be too late. Who knows?
